It’s innately Canadian to look to cottage country for an escape from everyday life. While many Torontonians are retreating up North, others are turning their eyes south of the Golden Horseshoe to Norfolk County. The county has a lot to offer for cottage seekers and is much more affordable than Muskoka.
The county is a popular tourist destination due to the scenic villages, beaches and ports along Lake Erie and Long Point. Known as “Ontario’s Garden,” the county is also rich in agricultural land and produces crops including ginseng, cucumbers, peppers and pumpkins. The area is also known for its wineries that are giving the Niagara Region a run for their money.
A great attraction to the area are the local festivals and events that take place throughout the year. Visitors can attend the annual Norfolk County Fair and Horse Show, Waterford Pumpkin Festival, Friday the 13th motorcycle rally and more. There are also many public beaches and trails for visitors to enjoy the scenery.
